Using a DC to AC Power Inverter Off Grid in a Barn

Hi, I am looking for DC to AC Power Inverter to run lights and my alarm system in my barn. Can you please tell me which would be the best inverter for me to buy? Would I need modified sine wave or pure sine wave? The alarm system runs at 400 watts and I am looking to use 4 to 6 100 watt lights.

For a simple applications such as running light bulbs and and an alarm system a modified sine wave dc to ac power inverter should work perfectly fine. Pure sine dc to ac power inverters are usually used with medical equipment and sensitive audio equipment to avoid harmonic distortion. You would be OK with a 1500 or 2000 watt 12 volt dc to 120 volt ac power inverter. You can add the 100 watts for each light and then add 400 watts for your alarm system. So the size of the inverter would depend on the the amount of lights you want to operate or if you have any other electronics you would like to operate.

If you are planning to use this system off grid you must make sure you have enough battery power for the run time. Also you need to make sure that your charging source either solar panels or wind charger is charging at the correct rate you power is not lost.
